Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/26 21:50 oh no, about 50% - I checked it just now 15 of 16 are listed as bots !
(this was not with. 1.2.0) (maybe you can compare the versions?)

maybe there is a chache problem somewhere, but I am nearly sure most of the users are at my site the first time ! Is there a chance to force the reloading general only once at the server at the ISP.

thx

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/28 06:40 hi matto !

I found out, that there must be a bug in the joomlawatch module!
At first I placed it at the very bottom of my page, so I saw no problem with it, only the Bots/visitor misplacement..

But I tried to place it at the end of the Joomla "left"-module area and I have now the problem, that all the following images (.png in my case) are not shown - there is only the alt-text shown !
I think this bug is also the reason why the 1x1 pixel image is also not shown by the (some) browsers and therefor the upgrading from bots to visitors status does not work !

I tried the same with the JoomlaWatch 1.2.0 and the problem does not exist!

Please be so kind and check the code (mod & img.php) there must be somewhere the bug !

thx for your patience with me, but now there is a good chance to find this bug faster - what do you think ?

best regards
Peter

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/28 15:29 Hi,
it works like this, that when someone visits the website, he is listed as a bot until he loads the icon. The mechanism is the same in all the versions (also in 1.2.0)

It's possible that when you have a heavy traffic on your website and the images are loading quite slowly, this icon is loaded after some time, and that's why he's listed as a bot.

I would suggest to publish the module at the very start of the webpage. And regarding the 1x1px blank icon, you can maybe try to replace it with ex. the original, but trasparent one.

Are there any other JoomlaWatch users experiecing this?

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/28 17:49 hi matto thx so much -

but sorry you are wrong:

I do not have much traffic and when I place the image somewhere at the beginning of the template (for example in the left column) the rest of the webpage is definately DISTURBED !! (no images are loaded any more - only the alt="sampletext" is displayed instead!) When I deactivate (unpublish) the Joomlawatch-Module in Joomla, the images are shown immediately again and everything is ok!
NOTE: The code of the two versions 1.2.0 vs. 1.2.5 for the mod and the img.php are definately different.....
So I have to to put it at the very end of the page. THIS WAS DEFINATELY NOT in 1.2.0 - I will change back in the meantime until you find the bug!

I already understand how it should work with the detection of visitors - but there is a bug in it which destroys something in the following rest of the html-code and I think that a result of this is, that some browsers do not display your img.php correctly and so there is no correct visitor detection!

Please be so kind and read my both emails again and try to find the bug - I think the whole community would be happy (just joking!)
thx for your efforts

hear you
Peter

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/28 18:03 Hi,
I don't have much time right now, but I will appreciate to see it in real.
The start of the code is different, you are right, but it's just to add the compatibility with both Joomla 1.0 and 1.5.
The important rest is the same, and the logic taking care of this in class.joomlawatch.php as well. Of course, a mistake can happen..

If you want, you can send me an email and create some simple limited account for me and url of your website.

Thanks,

Matto

Yes I also have this problem. I never saw an icon on front page. I see only "JoomlaWatch stats 1.2.3 by Matej Koval" when I am published in left or right. When I place it for ex. bottom JoomlaWatch doesn't work. I never saw an icon and it works when I visit a page. Other visitors are under Bot section.

What do you mean publish the module at the very start of the webpage and how to do that?

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/29 10:11 Hi,
I spent some hours and I found:

1)
a syntax error in class.joomlawatch.php

function getRand() {
.......name = 'rand' order by id desc limit 1; ";
(look at the end of this line!)

But thats not the main bug - there is more, what disturbes the html page after the module img.php - the only way is to show the joomlwatch 1x1 icon at the very end of the page there it works and nobody can imagine the bug.

2)
I am so sorry, but the bug with the many visitors listed as bots existed also exactly in the ver. 1.2.0 - I checked it today. I was wrong to assign it to the new version!

happy debugging !

thx

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/29 10:38 Hi, thank you for your hours spent with trying to solve this problem.
Sytax error? What you mean exactly? I don't see any syntax error there, and if so, the PHP would never make it work if there will be a syntax error.

And the img.php is loaded via <img src='...'>, so it's like loading the image. This is the only HTML the mod_joomlawatch flushes:

<a href='http://www.codegravity.com' target='_blank' title='JoomlaWatch Stats 1.2.5'>
<img src='http://www.codegravity.com/components/com_joomlawatch/img.php?rand=23147' border='0' alt='JoomlaWatch Stats 1.2.5 by Matej Koval' title='JoomlaWatch Stats 1.2.5'/></a>

You have any other HTML that corrupts your page?

The best would be if I could see it in real.

Regards,

Matej Koval

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/03/31 08:41 1)
So I could record the exact error notice, after I publish the JoomlaWatch Module1.2.5 before the following image call:

<div><img src="<br />
<b>Notice</b>: Use of undefined constant mosConfig_live_site - assumed 'mosConfig_live_site' in <b>/home/.sites/753/site90/web/start/templates/transparent_bliss/index.php</b> on line <b>67</b><br />

This does not happen, when I unpublish the mod-Jomlawatch.
So here is something wrong with definitions....... (the constant is undefined after the mod-joomlawatch ???

2)
Thx for your description of the visitor detection, I found the error by myself!
There was a another Joomla module active, which did not load in older versions of IE6 - and therefore these visitors could not load the page and the joomlawatch code - it is now corrected and works quite well.

thx

Re:many visitors now listed as bots! 1.2.5 - 2008/04/03 18:08 Hello matto,

Yes, I made a very simple Joomla Installation for your testing of the "constant breaking" bug as described intensively in this thread.
You asked me to have a possibility to test and debug it on a live example.
Please send me an email and I will send you the necessary access data, specially for your testing.

I think it would interest more people, not all have even recognized the problem until today.

This problem did not exist with ver. 1.2.0 !
